The Mazda CX-30, a subcompact crossover in between the CX-3 and CX-5, has achieved a near-perfect 99 percent score for Adult Occupant Protection. The car, which shares much of its DNA with the all-new Mazda 3, tops the list for this part of the assessment against Euro NCAP’s 2018/2019 protocols.

The Rover 100 (born in 1980 as the Austin Mini Metro), scored a measly 1 star when first tested in 1997, Euro NCAP’s first year of testing. It was the lowest score even then, and the small hatchback’s structure suffered significant deformation. The risk to both driver and front passenger in a head-on collision was apparent — so much so that Rover decided to stop selling the car altogether.
